Gilda’s Club believes that complete cancer care goes far beyond medicine. Caring for the whole person and their family is essential -- everyone affected by cancer should have access to non-medical support and resources. With education and support, those with cancer can be their very own best medicine. For 60 years, Gilda’s Club has provided free support to people with all types of cancer as well as their family members. About 1.5 million people will be diagnosed with cancer this year, including an estimated 5,800 people here in Rochester. With rapid advances in screening and treatment, cancer is becoming more of a chronic condition than a terminal illness. This increase in the number of cancer survivors will require diverse, innovative services and programs to meet their many non-medical needs.

Among the first things those diagnosed with cancer say to us in conversation or after having visited our clubhouse, “If only I had known about Gilda’s sooner or could have had this type of support closer to my treatment.” How do you respond to those statements? For Gilda’s Club, it’s by acting and capitalizing on our strengths - delivering our proven emotional and social support services where people are- and by working with and among those in our community to harness the power of collaboration and partnership. As we look to expand our presence, our goal is to create greater access to services – most notably at the point of diagnosis and treatment – to meet the growing needs of patients, survivors, and caregivers. By bringing our programs deeper into the community, we strive to truly ensure that no one faces cancer alone.

"Gilda’s has given me connections with supportive people who have become friends on my journey. With them, I know I can continue."
